Pro-life Old Age Home for the Destitute
Saved from the streets of Mumbai
Caring for the elderly destitute with love
Jeevan Asha took shape as a non-religious registered Charitable Trust in the year 1997, arising from the conviction and belief that life is precious and we have to respect and uphold life at every stage.
Jeevan Asha has a home for the aged destitute in Wadgar (6 kms before Vajreshwari), to provide not only for their basic material needs in a loving and caring atmosphere but also for all their emotional needs: acceptance, love and support.
Jeevan Asha strives to rescue and save the aged destitute from the streets of Mumbai, regardless of their background, gender, caste, creed or religion, and offers them a home of hope and love for the rest of their lives.
Vision & Mission:
The vision of Jeevan Asha is to rescue, provide food, shelter and with it, love, care and affection to nurture, uplift and nourish the physical and emotional needs of the destitute and abandoned.
Our mission is:
About the Institute:
The Trust was gifted two acres of land which is situated 84 kms from Mumbai, in the lap of nature.
In the time since, with God’s blessings and guidance, the Trust has bought bits of land around and today has 11 acres. It is in this small village of Wadgar (6 kms before Vajreshwari), that the Jeevan Asha Centre has taken shape with a building measuring 20,000 sq ft, ground floor plus one, a staff quarter which is a ground plus one structure and houses 12 self-contained one room kitchen accommodations, a luscious 10,000 sq. ft. green lawn bordered by flower beds and Palm trees and a small 3,000 sq. ft. playground with swings by the side. The atmosphere there is very serene and calm with no pollution and lots of greenery and fresh air.
The Centre is currently a shelter home for the aged destitute picked up from the streets in Mumbai.
Our rescue team reaches out to the aged destitute lying on the streets and after the necessary police verification and consent of the destitute proceed to take them to the Jeevan Asha Centre for shelter. The Mumbai police also help in highlighting such cases to us.
All the destitute are given a comfortable place to stay, clothes and toilet articles are provided for them and their daily meals are taken care of.
We provide the required treatment and medication for the aged destitute including a full body check-up and blood tests.
We have installed a TV in our Old Age Home for entertainment and recreation. We also promote Recreational Activities and Indoor Games for the aged destitute.
In case of any demise, we bury or cremate according to the consent given to us.
Thursday, 17th October 2019, marked the start of a new and wonderful work of God in Jeevan Asha Ministries. Over 400 people made their way to Wadgar in the Palghar district of Maharashtra to be present at the inauguration of Jeevan Asha: Rescuing Humans, an Old Age Home for the Destitute. We were honored to have His Grace Archbishop Felix Machado as our Chief Guest along with His Lordship Bishop Dominic Savio Fernandes, Rev. Fr. Joe D’Souza, Rev. Fr. Bastin Thomas, Rev. Fr. Daniel Fernandes, Rev. Fr. Vivian D’Souza, and Rev. Fr. Ainsley D’Mello.
After some quick snacks and refreshments, the programme began at 11am with the ceremonial cutting of the ribbon by His Grace Archbishop Felix Machado, in the presence of all the guests and well-wishers and amidst great joy and festivity. Everyone was then escorted to the hall where they were led in an anointed time of Praise and Worship by Br. Trevor Lewis accompanied by the Music Ministry. After an hour in the presence of the Lord, His Grace Archbishop Felix Machado was asked to address the audience and say a few words on the occasion of the inauguration.
This was then followed by a few words of acknowledgement by Br. Trevor Lewis, after which His Grace Archbishop Felix Machado and His Lordship Bishop Dominic Savio Fernandes led the audience in prayer to bless the Home, along with an intercessory prayer by Rev. Fr. Daniel Fernandes. They were then escorted around and taken to each room as they individually blessed the premises. Some of the guests accompanied them, while the others stayed on and were led in songs of praise by the Music Ministry.
Once His Grace Archbishop Felix Machado and His Lordship Bishop Dominic Savio Fernandes returned after blessing the premises and grounds, Bishop Dominic Savio Fernandes addressed the audience and expressed his appreciation and joy, for all the work being done by Br. Trevor Lewis and the Jeevan Asha Ministries. His Grace and His Lordship were presented with a bouquet of flowers as a token of appreciation. Br. Trevor Lewis then addressed the audience and thanked everyone for their support.
Finally, everyone stood in prayer for the final blessings and the grace before meals, and were escorted to the Dining Hall where they were treated to a delicious meal. After lunch, everyone thanked Br. Trevor Lewis and the Ministry, and made their way back home carrying with them a souvenir keychain with the face of Jesus on one side and the Rescuing Humans logo on the other side.
It was indeed a Blessed and memorable day for all !
“Come, let us sing for joy to the Lord; let us shout aloud to the Rock of our salvation; Let us come before him with thanksgiving and extol him with music and song. Come, let us bow down in worship, let us kneel before the Lord our Maker; for he is our God and we are the people of his pasture, the flock under his care.”
